In a lot of parts of the country, school is out for summer. And I've managed to see a lot of my books on summer reading lists. I am thrilled to see my books there, but I want to remind parents and schools of the importance of letting a kid read a book just because he or she wants to--not because it ticks off a box on some list. Summer is for fun. It's for relaxing. And if we ever want our kids to love reading like we do, we have to encourage them to read something just because it interests them. That means no reports, no homework, no filling in a mandatory reading time chart. Just laying on the sand, reading something that makes you smile, or laugh, or takes your mind to a far away place. Reading is fun--as long as we allow it to be.
HAVE A GREAT SUMMER EVERYONE. TAKE THE TIME TO SMILE..
